Tennis brings experienced squad to regional

Tennis will enter the postseason Friday, participating in the regionals meet at Smoky Valley in Lindsborg.

“I feel good about our team, but I definitely know our regional is very tough,” head coach Brendan Praeger said. The team is looking forward to the competition, but knows it could be tough to send players to state. “This is the most experienced team I’ve ever had,” Praeger said, “They’ve been in this position before and know the challenges.” With seven senior players, many have the experience needed to perform well.

Schreiner finishes 8th at state tennis

Senior Autymn Schreiner ended her tennis career at state with an eighth place finish.

Wabaunsee finished 12th as a team with 8 points. Kansas City Christian School earned the championship with 40.

Schreiner opened against Molly Bender from Conway Springs. Schreiner played aggressive and had no problem earning the win, 6-2, 6-3.

State Bound

Tennis season will continue for another week.

Three Wabaunsee players placed in the top six of the Hillsboro regional Friday and Saturday, placing 4th as a team and qualifying for the state tournament next weekend in Kansas City.

“It’s a great feeling to send some players to state for the first time,” head coach Brendan Praeger said. “Wabaunsee has had a lot of good teams in the past and I’m glad we’re finally playing on that level again.”
