The school board voted 4-1 to adopt the “R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Project ” in its meeting Monday night. The Charger staff has serious concerns about whether the program is necessary or appropriate for our district.

Frequent changes to USD 329 COVID-19 protocols have made the rules difficult for some students and families to follow. “We get these differing constant changes, not that “science” doesn’t change or shouldn’t be challenged, but then that loses trust,” superintendent Brad Starnes said.

USD 329 schools were closed on Wednesday, February 17 and many people are wondering why.
Going into the weekend the forecast was looking to be lower temperatures than had been experienced so far this winter. In preparation for the below freezing weather the custodians throughout the district left water dripping in the modulars and other buildings with water lines exposed to outside in the hope of keeping the pipes from freezing.
Friday, February 12 and Monday the 15th were already scheduled off for parent teacher conferences and professional development comp time, and Tuesday the 16th was canceled due to extreme cold.
WHS moves to remote learning due to COVID increase
After seeing a recent spike in Wabaunsee county’s COVID-19 cases, the USD 329 Board of Education decided to follow the Health Department’s recommendation to switch to remote learning until after Thanksgiving break.
USD 329 Bond fails 57% to 43%
Voters rejected the USD 329 bond by about 14 percent of the vote.
The bond, worth $24.65 million, sought to fund renovations and maintenance of district school buildings, and would have created a K-6 building in Paxico and a 7-12 building in Alma.
WHS adapts to online classes
Although the buildings are empty, USD 329 is still educating students through a Continuous Learning Plan.
In mid-March, Governor Laura Kelly closed all Kansas school buildings for the remainder of the school year because of the coronavirus pandemic, forcing USD 329 and the other school districts to continue students’ education from outside the classroom.
Wabaunsee County schools close due to COVID-19 precautions
Wabaunsee students will be out of school for at least two more weeks.
Wabaunsee County Health Administrator Ray Finley has made the decision to close both school districts in Wabaunsee County for two weeks, until March 30, including all activities and athletic events, the district announced Saturday afternoon. The precautions are part of a nation-wide attempt to curb the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).
329 BOE to address bond questions at town hall
USD 329 Board of Education is hosting a town hall meeting to inform citizens about bond options and respond to questions and concerns from the community.
The town hall meeting, 6 p.m. January 28 in the WHS commons, will be a roundtable discussion where patrons will be able to listen to positive and negative concerns for each option, tax impact, clarification on bond process, time line for the bond and information on conditions of buildings and budget.
