Oliver assumes role as WHS principal
Wabaunsee High School has a new principal this year, but also an old one. Junior High principal Steve Oliver has taken over at the high school as well.
Volleyball looks to continue success by developing talent
Volleyball coach Chris Smart looks forward to seeing the development of his players this year. “I think what every coach looks forward to is the progression of all of their student athletes and how well they adapt to the change of what we are asking of them,” Smart said.
Judgement Day | FFA hosts district livestock judging competition
FFA made use of a brand new agricultural facility to host this year’s district FFA Competition. Wabaunsee hosted the competition for the first time ever this year at the recently-constructed showroom. Prior to the new construction, Wabaunsee could never hold all the students and livestock. With the help of over 40 volunteers, all 25 schools were able to participate. The students also participated in fundraising to pay for the event and organize food.

‘8 Minutes’ presentation addresses dangers of alcohol use
Shiela Hasenkamp-Keehn brought her presentation, “8 minutes” to WHS students Thursday morning. “8 minutes” was a story about Shiela’s son Parker, who went on vacation in Arizona for spring break in 2016. He was drinking with some friends and chugged a bottle of vodka. After losing consciousness, he died for eight minutes.
Art teacher to take over high school counseling position
Some people find art to be therapeutic, now it literally will be for students at WHS. Due to budgetary cuts, USD 329 has decided to hire art teacher Brianna Guinn to take on the duties of retiring counselor Marilyn Workman at the beginning of next school year.
2 wrestlers place at state
The wrestling season ended Saturday with two state placers. Senior Derek Wallin placed 5th and senior Eli Mumpower placed 6th.
