Senior Jenna Donaldson signed her letter of intent to wrestle at Central Christian College in a celebration Monday at WHS. Donaldson has only wrestled this past year, as the only senior on the team.
Coach Tyler Douglass spoke first, thanking everyone and sharing about his coaching experience with Jenna.
“Jenna fought really hard the entire season and was the hardest worker in the room at times” Douglass shared. After a “heartbreaking loss,” Donaldson approached Douglass and assistant coach Jason Miller saying she wanted to continue wrestling. The two coaches started reaching out to college coaches immediately. The first to respond was coach Phillip Hatfield from Central Christian College in McPherson.
Hatfield went on to say how his program has grown from a team of three to twenty two. “I don’t put together just a team, I see it more as a family so everybody works together and are not fighting against each other.”
Donaldson closed the signing with a thank you.
“Thank you all for coming and supporting me in this special moment. I’m sure nobody expected me to go to college for wrestling, but here we are. I’ve really enjoyed it even though I was hesitant to go out in the first place, but I’m really excited to continue wrestling.”
