Basketball competed in the Royal Valley Invitational Tournament last week. On Thursday, the Chargers faced Chapman. The girls lost in overtime, 48-45. Junior Kaci Meseke had 20 points, eight rebounds, and five steals. The boys handled the Fighting Irish easily with a 66-45 win. Senior Eli Oliver led the team in scoring with 26 points. Senior Ryan Schutter had 12 points to go along with 8 rebounds.
On Friday the Chargers faced the host Royal Valley. The girls got their second win of the season with a 40-38 win over the Panthers. Junior Karli Meseke made four three pointers. The boys defeated Royal Valley 43-38. Oliver led the team in scoring again with 20 points.

On Saturday the Chargers faced the other Chargers from Santa Fe Trail. The girls lost a tough one 56-35. The boys won 57-48. Oliver had his third 20 point performance of the tournament scoring 22 points. Senior Bryton Reves had 11 points. Senior Logan Clark had nine rebounds. The Chargers were without Schutter who was out due to injury.
This is the first time the boys have won the tournament since 2017. The boys also won the tournament in 2008.
Basketball is home this week both Tuesday and Friday. Axtell visits tonight. Axtell boys are 9-2 on the season. On Friday the Chargers will host the Riley County Falcons.
