Charger basketball tips off postseason play tonight at home, as the girls face Kansas City Christian 7 p.m. at home.

The Chargers enter sub-state as the top seed with a 16-3 record. Eight seed KC Christian enters at 3-17.

Head coach Trevor Keller said the team is peaking at the right time. “I feel like we closed out the regular season well, we play in a really competitive league and I think that has helped prepare us for postseason play. We have talked all year about playing our best basketball during March and it is here now so, we just have to go out and compete on every possession and see what happens.”

Keller said health will play a part in their post-season success. “We haven’t been at full strength all year and if we are able to get healthy that would help us out tremendously. In addition to our health it will be extremely important for us to play solid team defense and rebound the basketball. We need to limit other teams to one contested shot a possession and then take care of the ball on offense.”

The girls are hoping to head to the state tournament for the fourth time in six years, a run that has included a 2nd and 3rd place finish. Sub-state semifinals and finals continue Thursday and Saturday at Lyndon. View the bracket here.

The sixth-seed boys  head to Northern Heights Tuesday, looking to avenge a competitive 63-57 loss to the 3 seed Wildcats in the second game of the season.

Head coach Christian Ulsaker is confident headed into the postseason. “It’s a good matchup. It was a close game. Watching film, we missed a lot of bunnies. We have guys back and people in full health,” Ulsaker said.

Ulsaker said the team will need to knock down shots and play defense to make a run to state.

If the team wins Tuesday, competition will continue Friday and Saturday in Lyndon. Check out the full bracket here.
